Mood Board

Image
Hey blog, this post will cover some mood boards I have made in an attempt to capture the essence of different settings. I will be showing my boards and also reviewing my thought process when finding the images and composing the boards, and why I did the things i did.  What choices did you make ? Why did you make these choices? What assumptions did you want the audience to make about your characters and how did you want them to respond to your locations.  DELETE THIS PART ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Fair: My main goal for this board was to capture the fun things you do at a carnival and the main reasons people go. This is why I included iconic carnival rides such as the ferris wheel and swing. I also included a staple carnival food funnel cake. I wanted the audience to receive a pleasant feeling as they were reminded of the fun times of the past. Insane Asylum: With this board I wanted to make sure to capture a sort of creepy and unpleasant atmosphere. Thus I included many eerie images s...

Movie Rating

Hello blog, in this post I will be analyzing the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, directed by James Gunn and owned by The Walt Disney Company. This action sci-fi super-hero film is a favorite of mine as it has a good balance of entrancing action scenes and comedic relief.  The criteria I will be rating this movie on are the following: Story telling, camera work, dialogue, and actor performances. Story telling 10/20: Id say the story in this movie is fairly interesting and holds the audience's attention for a good portion of the film. This is thanks to things such as the plot twist of Quill's dad being evil and killing his mom. As well as the development of the character relationships such as how Quill and Rocket learn to set aside their differences and the development of Quill and Gamora's relationship. However, the story for much of the movie can kind of seemed stretched too thin with many of the characters being in completely different settings and predicaments ...

Analyzing Technical Elements of Film

I chose to comment on moments from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, an action sci-fi movie based on the marvel comics by the same name, and directed by James Gunn. This is one of my favorite movies in the MCU franchise. In particular I will be pointing out what i think to be some of the best composed and best looking shots from the movie. The film opens with a establishing shot of a flashback setting of the main protagonist's hometown of Missouri. This shot gives us a glance into how this place looked before our main character was born. This shot also sets up perfectly to introduce the youthful versions of Star-lord's (the protagonist) parents. The next impactful moment is an ariel shot of the first upcoming action scene. This moment is also the first we get with our main characters. I liked this shot not only for the nice angle and colors but also for the sound motif. While the camera is moving in throughout the sky to get closer to the cast we get to hear a piece ...

Shot Composition

Image
Hey blog, this post is about some different pictures and a video i took to describe and evaluate the depth of field in different shots. Rule of Thirds-  This shot shows a young boy who's sitting in a chair. Through the rule of thirds we are allowed to see more of the scene however still drawing attention to the main subject. Shallow Focus- This shot shows our subject in distress hiding his face from view of the camera. The intense focus on the main subject and lack of focus on anything else helps to emphasize the emotion portrayed by the subject in the image. Standard Focus- This shot shows a statue and a man hiding behind it. The use of the standard focus allows us to see the two important aspects of the shot the foreground and midground meanwhile putting little emphasis the background. Deep Focus- This shot shows our subject pointing towards the center of the frame. This type of focus allows everything in the shot to be clear allowing the audience to inspect many aspects of...

Comments on my classmates videos

Hi blog!! Today I'm giving some comments on my classmates camera shots and angles videos. The classmates who's videos i will be giving an overview and feedback on are Dunia Castro and Maya Miller. Maya's shots:  Extreme Close-up: This shot shows a up close look at a person as the camera gradually zooms out. This shot helps us to get a personal look at the subject and evokes a sense of friendliness. Dutch Angle Shot: This shot shows our subject in distress perhaps from a tragic event or some other emotional pain. The Dutch angle of the camera as it pushes into the subject helps to intensify the feeling of distress within the moment. Low angle shot: This shot shows our subject showing off their outfit and turning away from the camera. The significance of the low angle in this shot is that it allows us the audience to feel the subjects confidence during the shot. Dunia's shots: Low angle shot: This shot shows our subject from a mid-long range shot in a heroic pose. The lo...
